Applications Now Available for the 2008-2009 Art of Leadership Series

Knowledgeable and committed board members play a key role in the strength and success of an organization and are in high demand in today's society. In response to this demand, NW/BCA presents The Art of Leadership to assist in the development of the next generation of non-profit board leadership and improve the functioning of non-profit arts boards in the greater Portland region. Designed for emerging business leaders in the arts in Portland, this series focuses on inspiring and training business leaders to serve on boards of non-profit arts organizations.  Our goal is to develop a  pool of individuals from the business community to serve on the boards of our vital non-profit arts organizations, improve their functioning and effectiveness - and assist businesses and their employees in connecting with organizations they want to support.

Through quality classes, expert resource speakers and interactive sessions with arts leaders, this program provides training and awareness for its participants on the challenges arts organizations face today and the role businesspeople can play as a member of an arts board. This wonderful program benefits both the arts and business communities. Member and non-member companies alike are encouraged to select and sponsor one or more "rising stars" in their companies to attend this series. 

The program consists of five half-day workshops from September through February.  NW/BCA Members receive a discount on tuition.  You'll learn about the current state of the arts in Oregon, the stages of growth of arts organizations, different expectations of board members, roles that board members play and how to apply this information as a volunteer leader in the arts.
