Business Volunteers Wanted!

BCA launched a new program called Business Volunteers for the Arts in fall 2008. Through this program, we recruit and place specially-trained executives and professionals to act as free consultants in areas of their expertise to assist with specific projects requested by nonprofit arts organizations. Currently, over 30 volunteers have provided valuable resources to arts non-profits on targeted projects.

We are committed to expanding the capacity of organizations at this critical time, and we would love to get you or your business associates involved. We have an immediate need for volunteers in the areas of PR and Marketing and Information Technology (database and web consulting), but are always looking to expand our volunteer pool in the legal, finance, real estate, architecture, and HR areas. If you would like to know more about how you can get involved, please contact Susan Myers at 503-228-2977 x2 or susan@nwbca.org.

Here are a few examples of what some of these business volunteers have been working on:

• Jodi Ballard, a human resources professional with The Standard, is consulting with Portland Taiko to establish standardized job descriptions and streamline the employee review process.

• Allison Beam, a recruiter with Boly:Welch Recruiting, is reviewing and updating Tears of Joy Theater's current job descriptions and personnel policies.

• Tiffany Brookshier and Tara Williamson from Boly:Welch Recruiting have worked with both Caldera and Film Action Oregon on large events.

• Todd Cayton, a financial analyst with PGE, served on Portland Baroque Orchestra's event committee for their recent fundraising gala.

• Kathy Kusudo, a financial services representative with MetLife, is working with Portland Taiko to establish a Planned Giving program for the organization.

• Janet Rothermel, a marketing professional, is collaborating with Friends of Chamber Music to develop and launch a new brand identity for the organization.

• Ethan Samson, an attorney with Stoel Rives, worked with Portland Playhouse to finalize IRS forms to achieve 501(c)(3) status.

• Walt Truelson, a management consulting professional, is leading Fuse Theatre Ensemble through a strategic planning process.

• Neville Wellman is collaborating with Well Arts Institute staff and board to enhance their financial reporting processes and is providing guidance on corporate development.
